Well, it’s time for me to read a lot… But I’m not complaining, that’s a good chance to improve my English level and to learn something new.
The book I’ve chosen is Lord Of The Flies, but the book I’ve chosen for the first session was Moby Dick, or The Whale. I’ve already read 200 pages of Moby Dick, so now I read both of these books (•_•)
I’ve chosen Lord of the Flies because my friend said it is a sensational novel with an unusual and overwhelming plot. I wanted to try to read something rough and ambiguous.
I’ve read only one chapter yet, but I find the book’s plot a bit confusing and elusive. There’re no explanations what’s going on and the reader has to figure out him/herself what are the characters like and what are their desires. But I still like the book because the beginning of the novel is quite intriguing.
There are no remarkable quotes in the first chapter because the plot is more important there. But I enjoyed this one from the middle of the book — “Maybe there is a beast… maybe it’s only us”. I think the boys will have to fight against their wild nature that will come alive as the’re all alone on the island. And there will be a lot of moral and philosophical issues among the characters and their creeds.
I also enjoyed the scene when Jack couldn’t kill a pig in the undergrowth. He was so scared to harm it, but also wanted to show off for his friends. The boy said that he was not a coward and he would definitely murder it the next time. I think this episode shows the beginning of Jack’s fall because he tries to replace his kindness and sensitivity with cruelty and savage instead.
